Bone Augmentation

Dental implant treatment is an effective solution that provides individuals with missing teeth strong and natural-looking replacements. However, in some cases, insufficient thickness or height of the jawbone can prevent the proper placement of implants. In such situations, bone augmentation or bone enhancement methods can be used to create a suitable bone structure for implant placement.

Bone Enhancement Method in Implant Treatment

Bone augmentation refers to the process of increasing or strengthening the deficient bone tissue in implant treatment. This method uses different techniques to increase the volume or size of the jawbone. Bone augmentation is used when there is not enough bone in the area where the implants will be placed and is crucial for the success of implant treatment.

The most common bone augmentation methods include:

Bone Grafting

In this method, a bone graft from another source (usually the patient’s own body or synthetic graft materials) is added to the deficient bone area. The graft material fuses with the jawbone, creating a strong structure and providing a suitable foundation for implant placement.

Sinus Lift

When there is insufficient bone in the upper jaw area for implant placement, the sinus lift method is used. In this procedure, a window is opened above the sinus cavity and bone graft is placed in this space. The sinus lift procedure increases the amount of bone in the upper jaw posterior region where the implants will be placed, ensuring the success of the implant treatment.

Ridge Expansion

This method aims to increase the width of the bone in the area where the implants will be placed. In cases where the jawbone is narrow or thin, ridge expansion is performed to create enough space for implant placement. Special tools are used to expand the bone, which is then strengthened with bone graft or synthetic graft materials.

Bone augmentation procedures are generally performed as part of the preparation phase for implant treatment. These procedures enhance the quality of the bone in the area where the implant will be placed, allowing the implants to integrate better. Bone augmentation not only increases the success of implant treatment but also helps achieve better aesthetic and functional results.

However, bone augmentation may not be necessary for every implant candidate. Your dentist will determine the appropriate treatment plan for you after a thorough examination and radiographic analysis.

Bone augmentation provides an important solution for individuals with insufficient bone volume in implant treatment. You can discuss your needs with your dentist to evaluate your options and determine the most suitable bone enhancement method for you.
